Levoit Eleva 300X Review: The Purifier You Forget Is There

Supplied by Levoit. Levoit sent us this unit free of charge and pays us a commission on sales through our links. Levoit did not see or approve this review before it went live, and it does not change our rankings. Full disclosure.

Most air purifiers look like they were designed for a hospital corridor. You buy one, it does its job, and every time you walk past it you wish it took up a little less of the room.

The Eleva 300X is Levoit's answer to that, and you notice it the moment it comes out of the box. It is a bedroom purifier, made to sit a few feet from you while you sleep, and it is built to be left running without you thinking about it. We have been testing it in different rooms around the house, in a home with young children and three cockapoos. Here is what stood out.

What we noticed

  1. 1

It looks like furniture, not a gadget

Clean lines, a soft finish, nothing flashing at you. In every room we have tried it around the house, it has looked like it was chosen for the spot rather than put up with. For something that runs in the room you sleep in, that matters more than any spec sheet admits.

  2. 2

The app does not make you work for it

It runs on Levoit's VeSync app, and it is one of the simpler smart-home apps we have used. Sleep mode, fan speed and a schedule are each a couple of taps. No hunting through five menus to find the one switch you wanted.

  3. 3

    It just behaves

This is the unglamorous one, and with smart kit it is the one that matters most. So far it has not dropped off the Wi-Fi or disagreed with the app about what it is doing. You set it, and it does it.

  4. 4

Auto mode has something real to react to

Levoit lists a sensor that reads PM1, PM2.5 and PM10, the fine dust and smoke particles you cannot see. That means auto mode is designed to step up when the air gets worse, say when the toast burns, and settle back down afterwards, rather than droning away on a timer.

  5. 5

    It is built around sleep

A quiet sleep mode, which with young children in the house is not a nice-to-have, plus Alexa or Google control if you already have a smart speaker. Turning it down from bed without reaching for your phone is the kind of small luxury you get used to very quickly.

FAQ

Levoit Eleva 300X: common questions

Is the Levoit Eleva 300X the same as the Salute 300?
Levoit refers to it as the Salute 300 in some of its own material. On Amazon UK it is listed as the Eleva 300X (ASIN B0H4GZJBKM), which is the unit we used.
Do I need the app to use it?
The app is how you get schedules, sleep mode and remote control, and it is the part we found simplest to use. Check the listing for which controls are on the unit itself.
Was this unit given to you?
Yes. Levoit sent it free of charge and pays us a commission on sales through our links. They did not see this review before it went live.
